How to disable automatic downloads of OTA updates on a Mediatek Android phone

It feels good to get Over The Air (OTA) updates but the sour part is the OTA update(s) getting automatically downloaded. First off, there are times you might be low on data and not be able to afford about 1GB going to an OTA update you don’t need urgently. There’s also the possibility that its a buggy update which the user community had openly criticized and you have little interest in. In either case, it only makes sense that you be able to choose to download the update or not. This brief guide will explain how to pull this off.

How do I stop my Mediatek Android phone from Automatically downloading OTA updates?

Google Play Services is the app in charge of OTA updates. Disabling or freezing it could cause other apps / processes to malfunction so you best disable only its System Update Service. To do this:
1. Root the phone
2. Install Disable Service from Goole Play Store
3. Launch the app

disable automatic ota updates

4. Tap the System tab

stop OTA updates from downloading and installing on its own

5. Scroll down to Google Play Services and tap it

6. You should see a list of Google Play Services. Scroll down to SystemUpdateService

Upgrade Infinix Note 2 X600 to Android 6 (Marshmallow)

It is no longer news that Android 6 (Marshmallow) has come to the Infinix Note 2 X600 Over The Air (OTA). This is coming just about two months after the Infinix Hot 2 X510 received the Marshmallow update. This brief guide will explain how to correctly upgrade your Infinix X600 to Marshmallow because you’ll hate yourself if you get it wrong with the X600.

What should I know before upgrading my Infinix Note 2 X600 to Android 6?

It is important you know your phone’s build number. To know this, Navigate to Settings > About > Build number. Yours should be H532 A1, H533 A1 or H533 B1. It is important you flash firmware ONLY for your build. Flashing a firmware for another build to your phone will cause it to go totally dead and the only way to revive your phone would be to loosen it down to the MotherBoard then make a jumper as instructed in the guide at https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-11899.html . This procedure is a bit technical so to avoid having to go through this, stick to firmware for your Infinix X600’s build.

How do I upgrade / update the Infinix Note 2 X600 to Marshmallow?

There are two formats of the Marshmallow update:
  1. Tcard / SDcard / OTA format
  2. SP flash tool format
How to upgrade Infinix X600 to Marshmallow using the Tcard / SDcard / OTA firmware format
  • If the phone has been rooted, unroot by flashing the firmware at https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-533.html using SP flash tool at https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-159html
  • Navigate to Settings > About > System updates.
  • Search for, download and install the OTA update
  • If no OTA update is available for your device then download the Tcard format at https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-12084.html and copy it to directly to the SD card (do not place it inside any folder)
  • You can then head back to System updates under Settings or boot into recovery mode using  https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-479.html then flash the zip file using the Install zip from SD card option.
  • Reboot the phone then confirm that it has been successfully upgraded to Marshmallow under Settings > About > Android version
How to upgrade Infinix X600 to Marshmallow using the SP flash tool firmware format
  • Install VCOM drivers on the PC using https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-440.html
  • Download the SP flash tool format of the Infinix Note 2 X600 Marshmallow update for your phone’s build at https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-12084.html
  • Switch off the phone then flash the firmware using the Firmware upgrade option in SP flash tool at https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-159.html

WARNING!!! FOR ALL MOTORS ON NEW OLUBADAN DAY

Oyo State declares Friday as Public holiday in honour of Oba Saliu Adetunji as Ibadan Market to be closed for Olubadan coronation tomorrow!!! The Oyo State Market Leaders Advisory Council has directed that all markets in the eleven Local Government Areas of Ibadanland be shut on Friday in honour of the coronation ceremony of Adetunji. A statement by the Acting President of the Council, Alhaja Mopelade Iyadunni, said that the closure of the markets became imperative to accord due honour to the foremost monarch, who succeeds Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I. The late monarch had joined his ancestors on January 19.The advisory council is the umbrella body State traders’ associations across the state, comprising Oyo State Market Men and Women Association, Ibadan Joint Traders Association, Food and Canteen Workers’ Association, Association of Trades men and Artisans, as well as the Nigeria Youth Traders Action Council, among others. The statement also called on members of all affiliate associations to join the state government, the Adetunji family, the Olubadan-in-Council, as well as citizens of Ibadan to celebrate the new Oba on Friday at the Mapo Hall arcade. In a related development, the governor has approved the conversion of the access road passing through the private residence of the Olubadan designate at Popoyemoja, which will also serves as his palace, to a one way. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, Mr. Oyesola Oyedele, conveyed the governor’s decision at a separate press briefing,on Thursday. He said that the decision became necessary to forestall the perennial logjam associated with the area, considering the expected heavy volume of traffic in the area on Friday and subsequently. Oyedele explained that traffic had been diverted to the adjourning roads, where he said adequate road signs had been mounted, adding that Vehicle Inspection Officers and officials of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority would be on hand to guide motorists accordingly. The PS urged motorists to take note of the new directive, warning that errant drivers would be sanctioned!!!

CONGRATS TO ALL GLO NETWORK USER'S!!!

Glo sponsors Olubadan coronation activities!!! GLOBACOM has been announced as the sponsor of activities lined up for the coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, who would be publicly crowned on Friday. While expressing happiness that Globacom had taken up the sponsorship of the epoch making occasion, the Chairman, Olubadan Coronation Reception planning Committee, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, enthused that the company had again displayed its unalloyed commitment to the common good of the nation. “We are delighted that Dr Mike Adenuga has not forgotten his foundation which was laid in Ibadanland where he lived and schooled before he became an international brand. We appreciate his sense of belonging to the city of Ibadan and the tenacity of purpose which has marked him out as a true Nigerian in word and deeds,” Adedoja quipped. The coronation is scheduled to hold at the Oja’Ba Square and will be graced by traditional rulers, prominent sons and daughters of Ibadanland, and captains of industry. High point of Globacom’s sponsorship is the royal banquet to be organised in honour of the new monarch with eminent sons and daughters of Ibadanland in attendance. The banquet will hold on Saturday, March 5, at the Ibadan Recreation Club.Speaking on its rational for sponsoring the coronation ceremony, Globacom said it remained proud of the cultural heritage of the Nigerian people from all the geo-political zones, adding that it was committed to promoting their cultures through robust support for celebrations of festivals and events with strong traditional values. The company also added that it felt proud to associate with the tradition of unity and stability which the Olubadan of Ibadanland’s stool symbolises. Oba Adetunji, who is the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland, succeeds the late monarch, Oba Odulana Odugade who joined his ancestors last December at the age of 101!!!
